Stargazers: This is the month of the Planets

This month, June 2022, we may be able to see 5 planets in the night skies, even without a telescope. These will be the other terrestrial (rocky) planets - Mercury, Venus, Mars - and our 2 closest giant gas planets- Jupiter and Saturn.

The best time to see all 5 planets aligned in our sky will be around 6.00am each morning. There will also be times that will be the best for seeing each of the planets individually.

From 9–27 June, the Moon will also pass near each of these planets, making each easier to see at different times.

Lock in these dates for the best chance to get a good look at each planet:

  • Saturn (9 June)

  • Jupiter (22 June)

  • Mars (23 June)

  • Venus (26 June)

  • Mercury (27 June).
