Cape Liptrap Lyrebird Count 2022

Cape Liptrap Coastal Park.

This year is the 9th annual Lyrebird Count, when volunteers spend 2 short early morning stints listening and recording the location of lyrebirds in the Walkerville / Waratah Bay area.

Some volunteers have been involved with this count for many years, and are keen to welcome new helpers. Training is provided, and newcomers are paired with experienced listeners and recorders.

It all begins on the evening of Friday 24th June with a briefing at the Fish Creek Hall. Dr Alex Maisey is a Research Fellow at LaTrobe University and expert on the Superb Lyrebird of south-east Australia will present information on what to listen for, and how to record compass bearings. It’s an early finish, followed by supper.
