COMMON NAME : Austral Bracken

BOTANICAL NAME : Pteridium esculentum.

FAMILY : Dennstaedtiaceae

PLANT GROUP : Fern

SIZE : Small <2m

LOCAL NOTES:

Height usually from 30 cm to just over 2 metres in ideal environment but usually up to 1.2 m in Sandy Point and surrounds.

Its presence often protects smaller plants eg young banksia from being browsed.

It can regenerate quickly after fire or soil disturbance - it is considered a pioneer species.
