LOCAL NOTES:
Spreading succulent perennial with green leaves, triangular in cross-section.
It has daisy-like light purple flowers which fade to white at the base.
It has globular purplish red fruit.
Karkalla is widespread at Sandy Point and Shallow Inlet on road and track sides, and can be seen in the primary dune from the beach.
It can grow vigorously as a garden plant in optimal conditions and require shaping to keep it within confines as it can form an extensive mat.
It can be used for culinary applications as a 'bush food' with leaves being juicy in salads with a salty taste, and the fruit is also edible.
